Most ancient cultures have specific guidelines that dictate not just how and when to eat your daily meals but also talk about how the right food pairing can dramatically improve our ability to digest food, support the body in receiving a deeper level of nourishment, and positively impact our overall health.
Here are some food pairing tips for you as suggested by Ayurveda.
Combining two concentrated protein like meat and fish is challenging for the digestive system. Try and stick to one high protein element in any specific meal. Also, balance it out by including vegetables like onion, lettuce, cauliflower, etc that are high in water content.
Fruits, by nature, are usually somewhat acidic, relatively simple to digest, and often digest quickly. When fruits are eaten with other foods, there is usually a significant inconsistency between the amounts of time required to digest the fruit versus the other (heavier) food properly. This can cause fermentation, gas, and bloating, thereby creating havoc in the digestive system.
The combination of cheese and beans is delicious no doubt but combining or pairing dairy products with beans can instantly bring on gas and belly bloating.
Ayurveda strictly advices us to drink water either 10 -15 minutes before a meal, or a half hour post a meal. Drinking water during a meal can dilute digestive enzymes, inhibiting good digestion.
