If your cleanser dries out your skin it just means you are not using the right cleanser for your skin type.
For dry skin choose a face wash that has been specially formulated to cleanse without stripping your skin of its natural oils.
Vya Naturals Vitamin C cleanser is a good option and works wonderfully for my dry skin. A little bit goes a long way.
Do not skip cleansing. It is an essential step to getting healthy, happy skin.
Once again, if your cleanser leaves your skin feeling tight and "squeaky clean" it is probably overly harsh and is stripping your skin of the natural oils that it needs.
A cleanser for oily skin should remove the excess oil but not completely remove the normal level of oil that keeps your skin healthy.
Vya Naturals co-founder Bindu has oily skin and she reaches for our AHA/BHA cleanser in order to clean her face.
Follow up with Vya Naturals AHA BHA Toner.
Also washing your face twice a day is plenty. Resist the urge to constantly wash your face throughout the day.
When your skin is overly dry thanks to an aggressive use of face wash, the brain signals to your skin to send more oil towards the surface as a compensatory measure.
This is why your skin starts to feel oily again no matter how many times a day you wash it.
A lot depends on your skin type and lifestyle.
If you have oily or combination skin your skin will have secreted oils (sebum) during the night.
Your morning face wash will remove these so that your skin is ready for the next steps in your morning skin care routine.
If your night time skincare routine involves the use of retinoids or heavy moisturizers or facial oils, you will once again need to remove all traces of these that may linger on your skin.
Our bed linens trap bacteria, and some of that can transfer from your pillowcase to your skin. Another good reason for a morning cleanse ;-)
For those of us who have an early morning walk or jog as part of our morning routine a thorough cleanse to remove traces of dirt and pollution is a must. Start your skin off with a clean slate in the morning. Clean skin is better at absorbing skincare products. It is also less likely to have blocked pores and acne as a result.
Neither!
Dermatologists advise using water that is at room temperature (or lukewarm) with which to wash your face.
This is the best temperature for all skin types and ensures that your skin gets cleansed effectively.
Once you are done with the cleansing step, you can splash your face with cold water in order to depuff the face and to reduce the appearance of pores.
Short answer - NO!
The only time you should be using a wipe would be if you do not have access to water and cleanser. (For example after a sweaty workout or an outdoor hike etc.)
Do follow up with a proper cleanse the minute you can.
Cleansing wipes are not effective at removing all traces of dirt and impurities from your skin.
Using a cleansing wipe will lift off most but not all of the pollution, makeup and dirt. The rinsing action of water is what completes and finally cleanses the skin.

]]>Pigmentation (also called hyper-pigmentation) is the name given to brown spots that form on the surface of the skin. Pigmentation can cover small areas of the skin in the form of spots or freckles. It can also occur in larger patches.
Pigmentation can be caused by exposure to the sun and/ or heat.
Certain hormonal changes like those triggered by pregnancy can also cause splotches of pigmentation referred to as melasma.
Injury or inflammation on the skin can also cause pigmentation. A classic example of this is the spot left on your skin after a bout of acne.
Melanin is a pigment present in the skin. It is responsible for the color of our skin. Skin cells called melanocytes produce this pigment.
Different factors such as hormonal changes, inflammation, sun exposure etc can cause the melanocytes to produce excess melanin which gets deposited on the surface of the skin. This is what causes pigmentation / hyperpigmentation to become visible.
NOTE: Your skin’s tendency to produce excessive melanin is unique to you. Sun exposure may cause you to freckle, while your bestie may be immune to it. Your acne may clear up without leaving any post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, while I may struggle with these marks for months after my acne has said goodbye.
Needless to say, prevention is always the best way to keep your skin healthy and even toned. However there are things you can do after your skin starts to show signs of pigmentation.
This can be done by limiting sun exposure during peak UV hours (10 am - 4 pm), wearing sunscreen, using a hat and/or umbrella etc. If you are prone to hyperpigmentation triggered by heat and sun exposure, your skin will be especially sensitive to the long hot days of summer.
An aggressive approach to pigmentation will worsen the issue instead of resolving it. Picking at blemishes and acne is an absolute no. Other overly aggressive treatments such as excessive chemical peels as well as harsh abrasive scrubs will make your skin more prone to pigmentation.
In case certain medications or life changes are causing your skin to show signs of pigmentation. Hormonal changes related to aging can also trigger pigmentation.
Exfoliation helps remove dead pigmented cells from the surface of the skin. Physical exfoliants can be used but be careful to not get overly aggressive or harsh with your skin. Chemical exfoliants such as glycolic acid, lactic acid etc. dissolve the bonds that bind dead cells together and are therefore gentler than physical exfoliants. Here is a guide to help you better understand the world of exfoliation.
Vitamin C serums are the most effective way to get your skin its daily dose of vitamin C. Vitamin C helps suppress melanin and keeps your skin bright and even toned. Here are some things you need to know if you are a newbie to Vitamin C- skin's super hero.
Alpha Arbutin is an effective slow release ingredient which is effective in inhibiting the formation of sunspots and pigmentation. Here's a complete guide to Alpha Arbutin.
THE BOTTOM LINE - be patient with your skin while dealing with pigmentation. Gentle treatments and the right skincare products are more effective than harsh peels and aggressive exfoliation.

]]>Moisturizers keep your skin healthy by boosting the moisture barrier of your skin. This barrier acts like a seal. It is what keeps potential irritants out and keeps moisture and essential lipids / oils in.
Moisturizers help prevent your skin from losing hydration. Dehydrated skin is the result of the top layers of the skin losing moisture faster than it can be replenished.
Moisturizers are formulated using three basic types of ingredients - humectants, emollients and occlusives. It is the magic combination of these three ingredients during the formulation process that decides which is the best formula for your skin type.
Humectants attract water into the skin and help keep it hydrated. Some popular humectants are glycerin, hyaluronic Acid (or its salt sodium hyaluronate), and allantoin. These are great ingredients if you have oily dehydrated skin.
Emollients are lipid like ingredients. They are very similar to the natural oils found in our skin and can help boost the skin's natural lipid properties. Shea butter, cocoa butter and fatty acids are some natural emollients. If you have dry skin your moisturizer will have a higher proportion of emollients in it.
Occlusives create a barrier between your skin and the external environment. They prevent moisture loss and keep irritants out. Castor oil, plant butters, beeswax and squalane are examples of occlusives. Petroleum jelly and silicones are also occlusives.
Depending on the end use or skin type for which the moisturizer has been formulated, it will contain varying proportions of humectants, emollients and occlusives.
Emollients and occlusives make the product richer and heavier. Dry to normal skin benefits from higher levels of these ingredients in their moisturizer.
If you have oily skin you might be tempted to skip this step especially if the product you use is heavy and feels greasy on your skin. Look for a light weight gel texture moisturizer that provides hydration, a key element that your skin probably lacks especially if you are using anti acne medication or medicated skin care products. Dehydration causes dead skin cells to form which can clog pores and further exacerbate acne issues.
Apply your serum after cleansing and toning. Wait for the skin to absorb your serum and then follow up with a thin layer of moisturizer. Do not skip using a moisturizer just because you are using a serum.
At night your skin is in recovery mode, with highest cell turnover during this period. Do not skip applying a night time moisturizer. Night time moisturizers are not that different from what you use during the daytime. One big difference is that it will not contain SPF the way some daytime moisturizers do. Also night time moisturizers tend to have more active ingredients such as retinols, exfoliating acids etc.
The golden rule is to wait no more than a minute after cleansing to prevent water loss from the skin. Pat your skin dry, apply toner and serum if using and follow up with your moisturizer. This ensures your skin stays hydrated and supple.

]]>Exfoliation is the removal of dead cells from the surface of the skin.
Exfoliation is a natural process and one which happens on a regular basis every single day.
However, as we get older, this process slows down (one of the main reasons why younger skin is baby soft and glowing). Other factors which compromise the process of exfoliation are lifestyle, weather, incorrect use of skincare products, lack of hydration etc.
Physical exfoliants are the most accessible and understood ways to exfoliate. They are popular and easy to use. They can be easily whipped up at home. The most commonly available physical scrubs are sugar, coffee grounds, nut shells, granules, beads and other similar abrasive ingredients.
Physical exfoliants physically lift off/ remove dead skin cells on the surface of the skin.
Physical exfoliants have their advantages - using them will stimulate blood circulation giving you that rosy glow. They also show instant results which is always welcome.
The downside of physical exfoliants is the nature of the abrasive material used. This abrasive material can be damaging to the surface of the skin as they can cause micro tears. If you prefer using physical exfoliants look for those formulated with less abrasive materials such as powdered oatmeal or gram flour.
Chemical exfoliants, on the other hand, use exfoliating acids or enzymes to dissolve dead skin cells.
If you have sensitive skin which can get irritated by the use of physical exfoliants then this method or promoting cell turnover is far more effective.
Chemical exfoliants interact with the top layers of the skin to gently lift up and remove dead skin cells, dirt and surface oils which make your skin look dull and lusterless. Facial acids and enzymes do this by breaking apart the bonds that hold the skin cells together. This helps the skin to regenerate itself resulting in brighter, smoother and clearer skin.

There is such a thing as too much exfoliation. This can be damaging to your skin. If you have oily or blemish prone skin, twice or thrice a week is sufficient. Dry to normal skin does not need to be exfoliated more than once a week
Facial acids such as AHA’s and BHA’s work differently for different skin types. Alpha Hydroxy Acids are hydrophilic (or water loving) and are great for dry to normal skins. Beta Hydroxy Acids are lipophilic (or oil loving) and work well for oily or congested skin.
Follow up with a hydrating serum (such as Vya Naturals Hyaluronic Acid Serum) or one that builds the skin barrier (such as Vya Naturals Niacinamide Serum) and a moisturizer to seal it all in.
Since AHA’s and BHA’s are by nature exfoliants it is always best to incorporate them gradually into your skincare routine. Your skin type and skin concern also play a big role in ascertaining the right product to use.
Vya Naturals AHA/BHA TONER has been formulated as a blend of 2% Glycolic acid (AHA) and 1% Salicylic acid (BHA). It also contains Niacinamide an essential micronutrient needed for healthy skin. It can be used by all skin types.
Vya Naturals AHA/BHA FACE WASH has been formulated as a blend of 1% Glycolic acid (AHA), 1% Lactic acid (AHA) and 1% Salicylic acid (BHA). It can be used by all skin types.

]]>You may be born with skin that doesn't produce enough sebum.
You may find that the “normal’ skin you enjoyed all through your twenties and thirties suddenly starts to produce less oil in your forties and onwards. Hormones play a role in this change.
This includes the climate to which you are exposed, medications that may cause reduced sebum production as well as use of harsh skincare products.
Use of harsh skincare products and/or prescription retinoids will cause your skin to lose moisture. Excessive exposure to artificial heating and cooling also causes dehydration.
This results in increased transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and dehydration.
Healthy, happy skin needs to have the right balance of sebum (oil) and moisture.
This is a universal truth and applies to all skin types and across all age groups.
Dry skin can be dehydrated; oily skin can be dehydrated; combination or normal skin can be dehydrated.
However by the sheer definition of dry skin, oily skin cannot be classified as dry!
That tight uncomfortable feeling you may experience on your oily skin is a sign that your skin does not have the right amount of water content in the epidermis. Your skin can have high sebum content but low moisture content.
Harsh cleansers and toners will cause your skin barrier to get damaged. If you have oily skin you may be tempted to use a cleanser that leaves your skin feeling “squeaky clean”. Instead opt for a gentle cleanser that will clean without stripping your skin of its natural oils. (VYA NATURALS VITAMIN C CLEANSER, AHA BHA FACE WASH).
One that hydrates as well as removes dead skin cells. Oily skin should exfoliate a maximum of 2-3 times a week while dry to normal skin will be happy with a once a week session. (VYA NATURALS AHA BHA TONER) Over exfoliation is also an issue for all skin types.
This increases the chances of your skin losing more moisture to the environment. Follow up immediately with your toner, serum and moisturizer.
Look for serums with amazing humectant properties. A humectant attracts moisture to the skin. Glycerin is a humectant so is Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic Acid is the buzzy humectant your skin never knew it needed - it holds upto 900 times its molecular weight in water! (VYA NATURALS HYALURONIC ACID SERUM).
Look for a moisturizer with the right blend of emollients (these soothe and soften the skin), humectants (to attract moisture in the skin) and occlusives (which seal in the moisture). A lightweight gel moisturizer works wonderfully for oily skin and combination skin. An additional occlusive layer of a facial oil helps dry skin stay hydrated and moisturized.
So that the moisture content in the air as well as that of your skin stays at optimum levels.
Water should be at room temperature in the summer or lukewarm in the winter. Excessively hot or cold water strips your skin of its natural oils.
Drinking plenty of water is not the solution to dry or dehydrated skin.
Hydrating yourself internally has its benefits of course.
However our skin is extremely inefficient in receiving water from what we consume as food and drink. Hence topical applications are the way to go to improve your skin's hydration.

]]>This is not uncommon or unusual.
The main reasons for this are as follows:
Here are the most effective ways in which you can address these concerns.
The main causes seem to be genetic, lifestyle factors as well as the normal process of aging.
Aging and genetics are something that is unavoidable.
However lifestyle changes and the right approach to skincare can slow down early signs of aging.
There is of course medical intervention - beginning with botox and moving on to injectables and fillers. However that is not covered in this guide and we would recommend connecting with medical specialists for this option.
5 best practices to follow for under eye skin care are as listed below:
Simple answer - no!
A well formulated eye cream will address the very specific issues of the periorbital skin (the skin around your eyes). Since this area is thinner, with fewer oil glands and lower collagen levels - not to mention the much higher level of movement that it is subjected to on a daily basis - a skincare product formulated for your under eye skin will differ significantly from that formulated for the rest of your face.
To understand this basic difference, think of how the skin on the bottom of your feet differs from that on your face. Just as a facial moisturizer would not help to nourish the skin on your feet, a foot cream would feel too heavy and overly occlusive on your face.
Eye cream or serums will:
Vya Naturals Under Eye Serum is formulated with:
Don’t skip using an under eye cream just because you use a moisturizer. The skin around your eyes has a structure different from that on the rest of your face. It is best to use a product specially formulated to cater to its special needs.
Secondly do not expect miraculous results - under eye skin related concerns need to be addressed with patience as well as with a combination of lifestyle changes and the right skincare approach.

]]>The major stress factors for your skin when you travel are:
Follow these basic tips while packing for your trip to save your skin (and yourself) from further stress:
You don’t need to carry your entire skincare wardrobe with you when you travel. This will just add to the stress of excess baggage, not to mention all that decanting of liquid product into smaller bottles. Make sure you carry your cleanser, toner, moisturizer and SPF with you.
If you have these key essentials, your skin will be absolutely fine for the duration of your trip. Do not use this time to introduce new skincare products into your routine. Save that for when you are back home.
To the basic kit, add the skincare product that you may be currently using to address specific concerns such as acne, breakouts, rosacea etc.
For that little extra skin treat, add a serum to your skincare bag.
If you are heading to a dry, dehydrating climate- HYALURONIC ACID serum is your best bet.
If sun exposure and the resulting pigmentation is your concern then ALPHA ARBUTIN serum added to your daily routine will stave off the effects of the sun.
If you are looking for an all round serum I would pick either Vya Naturals 20% VITAMIN C SERUM or 10% NIACINAMIDE (B3) serum.
In the era before COVID, the hours spent on the airplane were ideal for pampering your skin. The reality of travel today is that masks are mandatory, and as a result your in flight “me-time” has been greatly restricted. So what’s the next best alternative?
Prep your skin before and after the flight:
This is a personal call. It depends on the length of your trip, whether you travel light or loaded with bags. If you can get away with just putting your regular skincare products into your bags then that would be the best option.
Serums luckily are always in 30ml or smaller bottles. But washes, moisturizers, sunscreens etc. are normally purchased in larger sized bottles and may need some decanting into smaller containers for easier travel.
Separate out your skincare products from your hair products and pack in separate bags. Some like to take it a step further and pack morning skincare products separate from those used as part of their evening routine. Makeup gets a bag of its own.
A travel size hand sanitizer, lip balm and hand cream should be all you need now on the flight. You skin has been prepped up front, and your precious skincare safely checked in.
If dry skin on a flight really concerns you, pop in a small vial of facial oil. This can be pressed onto your skin to keep it nourished and protected against the dehydrated effect of cabin air.
Happy travels to your skin!

]]>They are not the same.
In fact some of the approaches around skin whitening can actually do more harm than good depending on the ingredients used to formulate that skin whitening lotion or cream.
Bright skin shares the following characteristics regardless of your skin color.
Skin brightening involves addressing the issues mentioned above which cause your skin to less than its best. Skin whitening is focused on making your skin appear a few (or many shades) lighter than your original skin color.
Brightening skincare products work towards getting your skin back to its original color or to address pigmentation related concerns.
While both skin brightening and skin whitening products may cause some irritation, the key difference to note is that brightening helps you achieve a natural, healthy and even complexion while whitening offers an alteration of your actual skin tone. Skin whitening ingredients, such as hydroquinone for example, have other side effects when used unsupervised or for too long a period of time.
Here are a few steps that make it possible for your skin to appear brighter and more even toned.
EXFOLIATION IS KEY
Gentle, regular exfoliation will help lift off discolored cells. Be gentle with your skin and do not over exfoliate. Vya Naturals AHA BHA toner contains a unique blend of Alpha Hydroxy Acids and Beta Hydroxy Acids which are exfoliants in a non abrasive, liquid form. You can read more about AHA BHA here.
VITAMIN C AND ALPHA ARBUTIN
These are two skin brightening products which can help reduce pigmentation effectively. Both these products have other skin benefiting properties. Vitamin C helps boost collagen levels in the skin. It is an antioxidant and helps fight free radicals that cause premature skin aging. It also boosts moisture levels in the skin. Vitamin C and Alpha Arbutin can be used together with great advantages to the skin. Remember to address pigmentation and brown patches as soon as you can. The longer you allow it to remain, the longer it will take to eventually fade from your skin.
Vya Naturals 20% Vitamin C Serum and Vya Naturals 2% Alpha Arbutin Serum can be layered in your skincare routine. Apply a thin layer of Vitamin C serum on clean skin followed by Alpha Arbutin serum. If your skin is new to Vitamin C, start with adding a few drops of the serum in your moisturizer.
Make the use of sunscreen a priority if you wish to see brighter skin. Wear sunscreen every day regardless of the weather outside. Choose a broad spectrum sunscreen so that you get protection from UVA and UVB rays, with minimum SPF 30 rating. Apply it generously and top up if you have been in the water or have been sweating excessively.

]]>So what does this mean for your skin and for your skincare routine?
Before we dive into the “what we need to do”, let’s take a minute to understand why your skin has been feeling less than happy these past few months.
DEHYDRATION: Hot weather causes our bodies to lose more moisture. This includes the skin, which is after all the largest organ of our body. As a result our skin feels dry and irritated, prone to itching and redness.
BREAKOUTS: if you have oily skin, hot weather will only increase your woes. Your oil producing sebaceous glands go into overdrive. This, combined with sweat and dead skin cells, causes your pores to get blocked, resulting in breakouts and acne.
UV DAMAGE: While ultra violet (UV) radiation is present throughout the year, it is at its strongest during the warm months of summer. UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin and show up right away as a tan or as a sunburn in case of prolonged exposure. They can penetrate windows and clouds. UVA rays cause skin aging as well. UVB rays on the other hand do not penetrate as deep as do UVA rays. They are responsible for most skin cancers especially in areas with depleted ozone levels.
INCREASED SENSITIVITY: Hot weather poses a special set of problems for those with sensitive skin. Even if you do not normally have sensitive skin you may see your skin reacting to all the above mentioned irritants. Spending hours in an air conditioned home or office also causes your skin to lose more moisture making it feel tight and dehydrated after a few hours. Once the moisture barrier of your skin is compromised it feels less elastic, more dry and prone to itchiness and irritation.
MASKNE: This special skincare concern has become a focus area for dermatologists who are seeing more patients with maskne thanks to the extra challenge of living with the corona virus. It now has a scientific name “acne mechanica”. Simply put, the nose, cheek and jaw area show signs of clogged pores and breakouts thanks to the mask fabric pressing down and capturing sweat, oil, makeup, dirt and dead skin cells in the aforementioned areas. Hot weather further exacerbates this condition by causing your skin to produce increased sebum and sweat.
Listed below are some changes you can make to both your lifestyle and to your skincare regime in order to protect your skin from the debilitating effects of heat and sun.
HYDRATE HYDRATE HYDRATE: Make a conscious effort to increase your hydration level. Measure how much water you are drinking in a day. The results may surprise you. We all know we should be drinking, on average, 2-2.5 liters of water a day but not all of us manage to do this. Take the extra step to hydrate your skin separately from the amount of water you put into your body.
STAY AWAY FROM DIRECT SUN: It would be impractical to suggest that we should stay indoors during sunlight hours. But a few changes incorporated into your daily routine could make all the difference.
BUILD UP YOUR SKIN BARRIER: The top two layers of your skin form a skin barrier that protects the lower levels of your skin by locking out irritants and pollutants while also locking in moisture. Extreme weather can cause your skin barrier to get compromised making your skin feel tight, uncomfortable and dehydrated. Sensitivity and inflammation are also signs of a damaged barrier.
ADDRESS YOUR PIGMENTATION CONCERNS: Exposure to sun and heat is a direct cause of pigmentation. The steps you take to address pigmentation will not only address this concern but will also improve the overall health and appearance of your skin. Make a note of the following steps:
According to renowned aesthetician Renee Rouleau “Skin cells have a memory and the longer you have them, the harder they are to fade and, even then, small amounts of UV light can reactivate them quickly”.
DON’T IGNORE THE SKIN ON YOUR BODY AND SCALP: The skin on your face is not the only area you should be tending to during hot weather. The skin on the rest of your body as well your scalp also displays signs of stress during extreme weather.
IN CONCLUSION, your skin will feel the effects of extreme heat and sun exposure. However it is possible to soothe it and to counter the effects of summer weather with a few well chosen products and lifestyle changes.

]]>Vitamin C is good for our skin and for our overall health. For instance, it helps our bodies absorb other nutrients such as iron more efficiently. Vitamin C boosts immunity against infections, helps wounds heal faster and also affects mood & energy levels. It impacts cardiovascular health by keeping blood vessels elastic.
Here are the top reasons why specialists recommend Vitamin C for your skin:
Despite the many benefits of vitamin C, human beings cannot synthesize this vitamin in our bodies. Nor are we able to store it. Vitamin C is water soluble. Excess Vitamin C is simply passed out in our urine in case we ingest excess amounts of the vitamin via our diet or via oral supplements.
Bottom line is that we need to ensure a regular daily intake of this vitamin in our diet. This also applies to topical application via our skincare.
Clinical studies have shown the potency of L-Ascorbic Acid. Products using this active penetrate skin tissue and step up collagen production. As a result, it makes skin appear smoother and firmer. It can also play a part in reduction of photo damage caused by harmful UVB rays.
Select a well-formulated product which uses a stable form of Vitamin C to get the best benefit of this ingredient.
Vya Naturals Vitamin C Brightening Face Wash is formulated with Ethyl Ascorbic Acid. Ethyl Ascorbic Acid is one of the most stable and effective forms of Vitamin C. It also contains Niacinamide and Glycerin for optimized hydration.
It is a light weight gel based cleanser which effectively cleanses without stripping your skin of its natural oils. You can use this product as step two of a double cleanse routine or just by itself.
Massage Vya Naturals Vitamin C Brightening Face Wash onto moistened skin for at least 25-30 seconds. This ensures that the active ingredient stays in contact with your skin for a long enough period of time. Rinse off with cool or lukewarm water. Follow up with your favorite serum and moisturizer.
All Vya Naturals products are free from parabens, sulphates, mineral oil, formaldehyde releasers, phthalates, drying alcohols, premix bases or petroleum and many other potentially harmful chemicals.

]]>Facial acids are basically exfoliants. They interact with the top layers of the skin to gently lift up and remove dead skin cells, dirt and surface oils which make your skin look dull and lusterless. Facial acids do this by breaking apart the bonds that hold the skin cells together. This helps the skin to regenerate itself resulting in brighter, smoother and clearer skin.
Facial acids are derived from sources commonly found in nature such as fruit, fruit extracts, almonds and dairy products.
The two most commonly used facial acids in skincare are AHA’s and BHA’s.
Read on to learn more about each of these two amazing skincare ingredients
AHA or Alpha Hydroxy Acids are derived mainly from fruit sources.
They are water soluble and are gentle on the skin. They help improve the texture of your skin. AHA’s also encourage cell turnover.
The most commonly used AHA’s are Glycolic Acid (derived from sugarcane or pineapple extracts), Lactic acid (found in milk and tomato juice) as well as Citric Acid (found in citric acid). Some other AHA’s which you might spot in skincare ingredient lists are Mandelic acid (derived from bitter almonds), Malic acid (found in apples) and Tartaric acid (found in grapes).
BHA or Beta Hydroxy Acids are found in acidic fruit sources such as strawberries and raspberries.
The most commonly used BHA in skincare products is Salicylic acid. If you have oily and acne or blemish prone skin then this is the skincare ingredient that can best help you achieve your skincare goals.
Beta Hydroxy Acids are oil soluble hence they are able to penetrate deeper into the skin. BHA’s not only exfoliate the top layer of dead skin cells - they are also able to target oil producing sebaceous glands, clearing them and helping prevent black heads and acne.
Facial acids are primarily exfoliants. This key action on their part has multiple benefits for the skin. Listed below are some of them.
AHA’s and BHA’s are found in several categories of skincare products due to their skin improving properties. Creams, serums, toners, face washes and even some categories of makeup use these facial acids in their formulations.
As explained above Glycolic acid is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid mainly derived from sugarcane while Salicylic acid is a Beta Hydroxy Acid naturally found in strawberries.
One can use Vya Naturals AHA/BHA toner after cleansing and before applying serum or moisturizer. Try using this once a day, especially as part of your evening skin care routine.
Once can use Vya Naturals AHA/BHA toner as a gentle yet effective exfoliant twice a week. Hot and humid weather causes excess oil production even for what is normally dry skin and this can cause your skin to look dull and in need of some surface exfoliation. Apply a small amount of product on a cotton pad and lightly sweep across your nose, chin, neck and any other areas which are prone to get oily.
Glycolic acid is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid mainly derived from sugarcane. Lactic acid is derivable from milk while Salicylic acid is a Beta Hydroxy Acid naturally found in strawberries.
Take a small amount of AHA/BHA face wash and massage it gently onto moistened skin as part of your cleansing routine. Follow the thirty second rule so that the active ingredients stay in contact with your skin before being rinsed off.
Vya Naturals AHA/BHA Face Wash can also be used as step 2 of your double cleanse routine.
It also contains Niacinamide (insert hyper link to Niacinamide blog) an essential micronutrient needed for healthy skin. It can be used by all skin types.

]]>So what’s the deal with alpha arbutin and why does it make such a difference to our skin?
Alpha Arbutin is extracted from a plant source. This makes it a natural skin brightener.
It prohibits the formation of melanin thereby helping your skin to stay bright and free from pigmentation and sun spots.
Arbutin is most effective when formulated as a serum.
Alpha Arbutin effectively inhibits an enzyme in our skin cells called tyrosinase. Tyrosinase gets activated upon exposure to UV rays and is therefore responsible for the formation of sunspots and hyperpigmentation.
It is also a natural antioxidant. This means it protects your skin from oxidative damage caused by free radicals as well as those caused by exposure to UV rays and atmospheric pollutants. This helps keep your skin healthy and less prone to early signs of ageing.
Alpha Arbutin is inert and does not negatively react with other skincare ingredients.
You can safely layer your Alpha Arbutin serum with other skincare heroes such as Vitamin C, Niacinamide, Hyaluronic Acid, Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) etc.
A rule of thumb is to apply the serum with thinner consistency first followed by the one with thicker consistency.
All Vya Naturals products are free from parabens, sulphates, mineral oil, formaldehyde releasers, phthalates, drying alcohols, premix bases or petroleum and many other potentially harmful chemicals.

]]>It can bind up to 1000 times its weight in water!
In other words, it acts as a humectant and draws water molecules onto the surface of your skin to retain its hydration and keep it plump, preventing the skin from sagging and showing early signs of aging.
The upper layer of the skin (the epidermis) takes the impact of environmental damage (pollution). As we age, the lipid barrier (fatty acids that trap in water and prevent irritants from entering the skin) in the epidermis slows down.
Everything from UV rays, to environmental pollution, lifestyle choices (like smoking etc) cause damage. This damage results in more fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots, and drier skin.
Hyaluronic Acid fortifies the skin’s natural barriers to help lock moisture and keep the skin hydrated. When the skin is protected and hydrated, increased skin cell turnover results in smoother, plumper skin cells.
Topical application of Hyaluronic acid can help increase skin moisture and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles making the skin appear firmer.
In winters, Hyaluronic Acid should be a must-have product in your daily skincare routine:
Use Hyaluronic Acid as the first step after cleansing, follow up layering with serum like Vitamin C, Niacinamide or light weight moisturizer to help boost hydration.
For best results wait for a minute or so to allow Hyaluronic Acid serum to get absorbed and then go ahead with applying other serums and moisturizers.
Not all topical Hyaluronic acid serums provide equal hydration.
The molecular size of Hyaluronic Acid determines the level of its delivery into the skin.
The smaller the molecule size, the deeper it penetrates the epidermis that provides hydration for longer duration as well as delivers other vital roles that Hyaluronic acid plays, such as anti-aging and healing.
Larger HA molecules stay on the skin’s surface providing instant hydration and making the skin supple. To get the best out of Hyaluronic acid serum, choose one that is formulated with both large and small molecules.
If you are looking for the a hyaluronic acid serum to add to your winter skincare regimen - Vya Naturals Hyaluronic Acid Serum is the product to choose.
Formulated with multi-molecular sodium hyaluronate it provides you both instant surface and deep hydration for reaping maximum benefits. This serum contains Sodium Hyaluronate (a salt of HA) with small and large hyaluronic acid molecules for multi-depth hydration. Vitamin C and Green Tea help address dullness and deliver multiple benefits.
As the body produces sufficient hyaluronic acid in the younger years you do not need to apply it topically.
Both men or women above the age of 20 can use this product. As you get to your 20’s and 30’s, the body's ability to produce Hyaluronic Acid decreases; we recommend that at this stage you start with topical application of hyaluronic acid serum.
Hyaluronic Acid is a hydration booster that works well with all skin types, whether the skin is sensitive or prone to breakouts.
All Vya Naturals products are free from parabens, sulphates, mineral oil, formaldehyde releasers, phthalates, drying alcohols, premix bases or petroleum and many other potentially harmful chemicals.

]]>Fatigue and Stress seem the most reasonable description for this condition but having said that several other factors can contribute to dark circles under the eyes.
Dark circles beneath the eyes are generally caused by exhaustion and stress. Sometimes, what appears to be dark circles under your eyes are merely shadows cast by puffy eyelids or hollows under your eyes that develop as a normal share of aging.
Lethargy, sleeping longer hours, or just staying up a few hours past your normal bedtime can cause dark circles to form under your eyes. Sleep deprivation can cause your skin to become dull and pale, allowing dark tissues and blood vessels beneath your skin.
Spending long hours viewing a television screen, laptop or cell phone can cause substantial strain on your eyes. This strain can lead blood vessels around your eyes to broaden. As a consequence, the area around your eyes gets pitchy and becomes dark.
Usual aging is a mutual reason for dark circles beneath your eyes. As you start aging, your skin becomes slender. There is an adequate loss of fat and collagen which is essential to preserve the skin’s elasticity. As this happens, the dark blood vessels beneath your skin become noticeable causing the eyes to darken and be patchy.
Dryness and dehydration in the body result in dark circles under your eyes. When your body doesn’t consume an adequate amount of water, the skin beneath your eyes begins to look cloudy and saggy.
Overexposure to the sun can cause your body to produce an excess of melanin, the pigment that offers your skin texture and color. Excess contact with the sun predominantly for your eyes cause pigmentation in the skin to dim and blacken.
Getting an adequate amount of sleep help to reduce the arrival of dark circles. Permit yourself seven to eight hours of sound sleep and rest to avoid dark circles.
Sleep deprivation plays a role in creating those dark bags under your eyes, sometimes it also depends on the way you sleep. Elevate your head with a pillow to avoid fluid from pooling under your eyes which makes them look puffy and swollen.
Spread over cold tea bags to your eyes when you have a tiring day. Tea contains caffeine and antioxidants that can help stimulate blood circulation, shrink your blood vessels, and lessen liquid holding beneath your skin. Soak two black or green tea bags in the water and apply on your closed eyes for 10 to 15 minutes.
For an active and permanent result, you need to surely try Vya Naturals Under Eye Serum with a soothing massage roller to reduce dark circles, puffiness, dryness and fine lines. Enriched with caffeine, avocado oil, moringa and grape extract, vitamin E and niacinamide help soothe sensitive under-eye skin and reduce dry skin.
Vya Naturals products contain no harmful or toxic chemicals.
Our science-backed formulations make Vya Naturals Eye Serum a great choice to fight dark circles.
All Vya Naturals products are free from parabens, sulphates, mineral oil, formaldehyde releasers, phthalates, drying alcohols, premix bases or petroleum and many other potentially harmful chemicals.

]]>Men’s skin is not exposed to the same hormonal variations as women’s. Immune responses differ between genders, not only do men have distinct dermal microflora, they are more prone to both bacterial and viral infections of the skin. Part of that increased susceptibility to infection is related to their grooming routines.
Men have oilier and thicker hair follicles, more active sebaceous glands, and therefore more pores, than women. Men’s skin is also around 25% thicker due to androgen stimulation.
Men's skin is naturally thicker (around 25% due to androgen stimulation) and oilier, due to higher levels of sebum, caused by a 10-times-higher level of testosterone than women.
It is also tighter, and has firmer appearance due to a greater quantity of collagen.
Research has discovered that women’s skin ages faster than men's, collagen production declines in both sexes but it is faster in women. When collagen weakens the skin loses its firmness resulting in wrinkles, creases. However, from the age of 40, aging features accelerate, and deep wrinkles can appear relatively quickly starting right from under the eye.
Men are most affected by sagging skin combined with puffy eyes and dark circles that make them appear tired. Similarly men get wrinkles later than women, but they have a deeper appearance.
Regular shaving makes male skin more stressed than female skin. On average, men shave 15000 plus times in their lives. The repetitive, often daily, trauma during shaving can lead to patterns of skin inflammation and infection rarely seen in women. Daily shaving stresses the skin and causes sensitivity in most cases.
When men shave, it acts as an exfoliant, getting rid of dead skin cells. Each shave removes the uppermost layer of skin cells, exposing new younger skin that is particularly sensitive to external influences, like environment, pollutants and products that you apply.
30-40% of men have shaving-related skin problems. If one is not careful then a blunt razor, insufficient lubrication while shaving can lead to nicks and cuts, razor burn and razor bumps.
The skin is the largest organ and performs several different functions. Regardless of gender, the skin needs care and attention to stay healthy.
Men’s skin too benefits from a dedicated approach to skincare and from products that respect its unique attributes.
The tradition of self grooming and outward appearance in men has quickly changed over the time from not being important to a part of a daily regimen. Being well groomed has gained popularity, thus Men have become very conscious about their appearance and hence skin care for men has assumed importance.
One potential barrier to gender neutral skincare is fragrance which is by and large considered feminine in the beauty/grooming category.
Vya Naturals products are fragrance free and hence they are great for men too.
Men sweat a lot, A 2010 study by the journal Experimental Physiology confirmed that men generally sweat more than their female counterparts. Men also sweat more efficiently due to larger size of glands.
However during adolescence, acne vulgaris is more common in males than in females. In adulthood, acne vulgaris is more common in women than in men.
Thicker skin scars deeper. Thinner skin forms better scars than thicker skin.
The needs of men’s and women’s skin are quite similar. Men’s facial skin loses elasticity in a fashion similar to women’s, so products that help build collagen, accelerate the skin’s repair functions by stimulating tissue growth, and help minimize large pores, wrinkles and fine lines are highly recommended for men too. Men can use stronger skin treatments with higher concentration of actives and still be okay.
Men’s skin needs the exact same things that women’s skin does. I tend to be of the opinion that everyone, regardless of gender, should follow the same skincare routine - use gentle cleansing, hydration, a dose of antioxidants and sun protection.
Shaving foams, aftershaves and shaving balms can dehydrate the skin and strip it of its barrier function.
Men should also NOT use mechanical exfoliators (like scrubs, brushes or tools) and should exfoliate using acids like glycolic or lactic acid - yes, the skin is thicker but grits can still cause damage to the surface of the epidermis that will last for much longer than that initial smooth, post-grit feeling does.
A Peptide Moisturizer and Hyaluronic Acid Serum are beneficial in keeping the skin hydrated, while serums like Vitamin C and Niacinamide help repair the skin barrier and even out the skin tone.
Men are more likely than women to have outdoor jobs. They are less likely to protect their skin with sunscreen, umbrella etc. Due to UV exposure and outdoor activities, men have a tendency to produce more melanin and therefore the skin appears to be dark. To help maintain and protect the skin from dirt and grime a regular face wash with ingredients like vitamin c, turmeric, and salicylic acid can help. A good SPF product can keep the skin protected from further sun damage.
Although men have thicker skin, their thicker dermal layer is actually more sensitive to environmental conditions than thinner female skin. Men have drier skin than women and have a greater need to moisturize, Men’s skin also is more sensitive to ultraviolet radiation than female skin.

]]>Sensitive skin is a condition where skin is easily irritated. It involves sensations like stinging, itching, burning, rash, pain, redness, inflammation etc. often stimulated by an external agent.
Cleansing and moisturizing are two essential techniques to manage sensitive skin. Cleansers, Moisturizers and lotions with gentle formulations can help without irritating the skin. Some ingredients may work better, depending on the type of sensitivity.
Another thing to consider while choosing products for sensitive skin is - skin barrier. Ingredients that help repair and maintain the lipid barrier should be a must have on the list.
If proper care is not taken, sensitive skin can lead to skin conditions like acne, psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis etc.
Yes, recent studies carried out by P&G & 23&Me published that there is indeed a genetic association for skin sensitivity. The research moreover suggests that proper management of sensitive skin is important.
However, there are instances of acquired skin sensitivity due to occupational hazards like exposure to complex mixtures, excessive hand washing, use of hand sanitizers, high frequency of wet work, and environmental or other factors which may enhance penetration and stimulate other biological responses causing skin sensitivity.
WHAT ARE THE LONG TERM EFFECTS OF HAND SANITIZER USE?
Let's talk about the long term effects of using Hand Wash, Soap, Detergents and Hand Sanitizers With Alcohol.
Human skin is naturally protected by pH control, hydration and fat content in the outermost layer. Any agents that affect these key factors can have a damaging effect on the skin.
Alkaline Soaps remove the good bacteria and dehydrates the skin by dissolving fats thus leading to dry skin over time. Similarly alcohol alters the skin microbiome (useful microflora on the skin which helps protect it) and the epidermal structure thus making it viable for infections and dry skin problems. Aggressive surfactants allow easy entry of bacteria & viruses through the skin.
This further disrupts the skin barrier and causes inflammation, eventually resulting in contact dermatitis.
People with dry sensitive skin or dehydrated skin should follow below steps to safeguard the skin.
Commercial soaps and hand wash usually contain fragrances, colors and other chemicals which can cause allergic dermatitis, so go for gentle, fragrance free soaps or hand wash. We would recommend handmade, fragrance free soaps which are less irritating and more hydrating than commercial soaps.
After each wash, remember to dry your hands thoroughly. As trapped water or excessive moisture can cause skin irritation or dermatitis, make sure to dry the entire surface including the webs of your fingers and under your rings.
Use a fragrance free moisturizer regularly after the use of hand hygiene products. Vya Naturals moisturizer with multi peptides is a good skin friendly product to apply.
Changes in the skin pH play a role in the skin conditions like contact dermatitis, acne etc, which can lead to weakened skin barrier.
The top layer in the skin helps to keep the skin hydrated and protected. Vitamin B3 aka Niacinamide will increase your ceramide levels and help your skin to protect itself. This, in turn, will help improve your skin’s barrier, keep it strong and help your skin stay hydrated. We recommend mixing Vya Naturals Niacinamide Serum with your moisturizer and applying on the hands.
Wear gloves when doing work that includes washing the dishes, clothes or cleaning. Gloves help protect the hands and minimize the need to wash or sanitize them.
If your hands feel very dry and flaky, moisturize your hands, then cover them with either cotton gloves or cotton socks. This will provide an intense hydration mask and ensure the moisturizer stays on your hands and works its magic for very dry skin.
Patch test is done to determine how allergic you are towards a particular skin application product. The redness can happen typically if there is an excessive use of soap or a sanitizer as well. It usually goes away when the use of these products is minimized.
I would like to summarize by saying that some people are simply more sensitive to products that come into contact with their skin than others.
Avoiding harsh chemicals, fragrance, colors, and other ingredients that may trigger irritation in skin care products can help ease symptoms. If your symptoms are persistent or get worse, you should consult a Doctor. Your doctor can also test the skin for any underlying condition or allergy. Once you know the cause of the symptoms you can get the right treatment.

]]>Lack of sleep as well as water retention can cause visible skin issues in the delicate area around the eyes.
Caffeine based eye creams not only help to reduce under eye puffiness but also brighten up the area around the eyes. Beauty shelves today are loaded with many caffeine based eye creams, which promise wrinkle free skin around the eyes.
We recommend you to give a try to Vya Naturals Under Eye Serum to de-puff those tired eyes. Vya Naturals caffeine eye cream helps get rid of puffiness and fines lines in the delicate skin around the eyes. Caffeine, Avocado Oil, Vitamin E, Niacinamide, Moringa and Grape Extracts found in it help restore and rejuvenate the under eye skin while fighting early signs of aging.
How To Apply The Eye Serum The Right Way
The skin under the eye is thin and delicate. As such it needs special care and attention.
Vya Naturals Under Eye Serum comes with a cooling massage roller to reduce dark circles, puffiness, dryness and fine lines.
Pump once to activate the roller and to release a small amount of serum. Massage the under eye area with the cooling roller. Use fingertips to gently pat in any excess serum.
Let’s get our basics clear: Peptides are amino acids that are the building blocks of certain proteins needed by the skin, like collagen, elastin and keratin.
These skin proteins are naturally synthesized by our body, but as we age our body’s capacity to generate these proteins gradually diminishes. Lack of supply of peptides can lead to signs of aging such as fine lines, dark circles, sagging skin, resulting in loss of firmness and change in texture.
Think of peptides as smart ingredients that work in very specific ways to target an exact skin care need.
Since peptides help in production of collagen, you might wonder if you should apply a topical collagen cream.
Here’s the problem - topical application of collagen may not be a favorable option as the collagen molecule is too large to penetrate to the deepest layers of the skin and have the desired effect.
Enter peptides- Peptides that are small enough in composition for our skin to absorb in the deepest layers, they signal our skin to repair itself and to alleviate dehydration by producing more water-retaining cells and proteins. Using a serum or moisturizer that contains peptides can lead to firmer, younger-looking skin, and fewer breakouts.
In the world of skincare, having a resilient skin barrier is the first step to a healthy skin. After all, it is the first line of defense protecting our skin from pollution, skin infections, sun damage and other environmental toxins. Your skin barrier can also be compromised by over exfoliation, exposure to cigarette smoke, stress and lack of sleep.
An effective multi peptide formula such as Vya Naturals Multi Peptide Moisturizer will help you repair and build your skin barrier.
Elastin and collagen are both proteins found in our skin. They work together to give our skin its texture and shape. As we grow older, our body produces less and less of these proteins. As collagen breaks down, the peptides send a signal to our skin cells to boost collagen production. Skin with healthy levels of both collagen and elastin isn't just more youthful; it's stronger and healthier.
Topical application of peptides eases inflammation, evens out skin tone and repairs skin damage. Since peptides are antimicrobial in nature, they can also help clear out acne breakouts.
Since our skin is made up of a network of collagen fibers, a boost in production of collagen by applying a multi peptide formula results in plumper skin.
A combination of Vya Naturals Vitamin C Serum, another antioxidant and Vya Naturals Multi-Peptide Moisturizer will help boost collagen production link.
A decrease in collagen production leads to a dehydrated skin. But thankfully peptides address this as well. Peptides are smart enough to know where to travel in our bodies to deliver the utmost benefits. If it is hydration that our skin lacks, a multi peptide formula will help keep our skin hydrated. Just to give an additional boost to your hydration needs, use Vya Naturals Hyaluronic Acid Serum.
With proper regulation of collagen and elastin, peptides make your skin firmer and clearer. They even out your skin tone and improve texture.
We love to share that peptides are our best friends in skincare. And why not - peptides are after all the powerhouses behind the production of skin-strengthening proteins, like collagen, keratin, and elastin.
Peptides are able to sink into the deeper layer of the skin instead of just sitting on the top layer. They signal our skin cells to produce collagen and elastin that results in firm, tight, flexible, and hydrated skin.
We know that peptide is a versatile ingredient but when it comes to choosing a peptide product how do we decide which one is the best for us. Best to choose a leave-on product that can be easily absorbed and work it’s magic. Using a serum or moisturizer that contains peptides to address various skin benefits is a great start.
Vya Naturals Multi-Peptide Moisturizer comes with the goodness of Purslane Extract. Purslane (Portulaca Oleracea) is a plant that is a gold mine of antioxidants such as Omega 3 Fatty Acids, Vitamin A, B1, B2 and beta-carotene. In addition Purslane repairs the skin on a cellular level, along with being an anti-inflammatory agent. Other ingredients that support the goodness of Multi Peptides in our new moisturizer are coco and shea butter, olive oil, oatmeal extract and wheat protein.
To get the most out of Vya Naturals Multi-Peptide Moisturizer, we suggest a ‘cocktail approach’ to skincare. Uniquely compatible with most ingredients, you can use this formula with other potent serums from Vya naturals.
Use Vya Naturals Multi-Peptide Moisturizer with Vya Naturals Niacinamide Serum (5% Niacinamide) or Vitamin B3 Serum (10% Niacinamide) to reinforce and strengthen your skin barrier like never before.
Pair your Vya Naturals Multi-Peptide Moisturizer with Vitamin C Serum from Vya Naturals to delay the inevitable signs of aging by ramping up collagen production.
And you guessed it, Vya Naturals Hyaluronic Acid Serum can obviously be paired with our Multi-Peptide Moisturizer, resulting in a better skin texture and intense hydration.
When peptides are blended with antioxidants and other revitalizing ingredients, it can protect the skin from environmental aggressors responsible for creating oxidative stress and free radicals, resulting in healthier, firmer, youthful looking skin.
The frequency of usage will depend on the product that best suits you and your skin type.
Generally, however, multi peptides moisturizers or creams are safe to use twice daily.
When using peptides, you can start noticing a difference in a matter of weeks. However it may take anywhere from 3-6 months to display their full benefits.
First of all, if you’re pregnant or hoping to be, congratulations and best wishes! This exciting journey of 9 months takes you through a lot of changes in your body: both physical and emotional. It is a time when your skin undergoes a lot of changes as well.
Since your baby consumes whatever you consume, pregnancy is a major factor in motivating many women to switch to clean beauty. The best way to achieve safe skincare goals would be to start using clean, well formulated products.
So where to begin is the big question - don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.
Pregnancy-related skin changes happen to most women. Hormones are largely responsible for this — it's one of those “normal” changes that come with the mama-to-be period.
While some lucky ladies experience 9 months of glowing complexion, others experience some new or worsening skin issues at some point. While you deal with preexisting skin conditions such as eczema, rosacea etc you may also have to deal with issues like stretch marks, itchy skin, hair growth or hair loss.
During pregnancy, your body is basically a cocktail of hormones, getting stirred every now and then. Every body responds uniquely to hormonal changes and hence, glowing skin is not a standard outcome of every pregnancy. Many women also encounter some less exciting changes in their skin.
Increased sensitivity to the sun and innumerable hormonal changes make your skin all over your body vulnerable to pigmentation. This means that certain areas of your skin appear darker. A variation of pigmentation that is common during pregnancy is melasma.
Melasma is a form of hyperpigmentation characterized by symmetrical brown pigmentation on the face. It is caused by the excessive production of melanin.
One of the ways you could effectively fight pigmentation during pregnancy is by topical application of Vitamin C. Read to know Why Vitamin C Products are Your Skin's Holy Grail.
Vya Naturals Vitamin C Serum brightens your skin and fades pigmentation, while being safe for your skin and baby.
If you thought that you left behind acne in your teenage years, this might come as a surprise to you. Hormonal changes, increased sensitivity and increased oil secretion can cause acne during pregnancy.
Niacinamide is a safe ingredient for moms-to-be to address acne issues. It is a form of Vitamin B3 that reinforces your skin barrier. As your skin tends to be more sensitive during this time, include topical application of Niacinamide to hydrate, repair and soothe your skin. Niacinamide for Skin: The Complete Beginner's Guide.
Use Vya Naturals 5% Niacinamide Serum or 10% Niacinamide Serum to fight hormonal acne. It contains Aloe Vera that helps to reduce inflammation. It is formulated with naturally derived, skin loving ingredients that pose no threat to you or your baby.
Some pregnant women have to deal with dry skin at some stage during their pregnancy, especially during winters. Luckily, you only need to head to the kitchen to find some potent remedies for dry skin.
Hormonal changes, increased sensitivity as well as excessively dry skin can cause discomfort and itchiness/ flaking of skin during pregnancy. To keep dry skin at bay, we recommend topical application of Hyaluronic Acid. Everything You Need To Know About Hyaluronic Acid.
When it comes to skin plumping and hydrating, you can use Vya Naturals Hyaluronic Acid Serum. It works efficiently for all skin types in diminishing dryness and poses no threat to mom or baby.
Thinking of skin during pregnancy often leads us to “Pregnancy Glow”.
Pregnancy glow is neither a myth, nor a miracle. It is good old science. When you’re pregnant, your blood vessels expand as a result of higher oestrogen levels and other factors, which lead to an increase in blood circulation. This leads to more blood flow to the skin because of which expectant mothers sometimes enjoy glowing skin.
Not only do you look more radiant, but your face may even appear plumped up.
First and foremost, it is ALWAYS important to check with your doctor and discuss the specific skin care you want to use. Certain over-the-counter actives and spot treatments are unsafe during pregnancy.
It is poor skin hygiene to suddenly stop doing your skincare routine in the mistaken belief that acne and hyperpigmentation are imminent. Since your skin is more sensitive than usual, you need to watch your skin diet judiciously. Certain necessary antioxidants like Niacinamide, Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin C are necessary for maintaining the overall health and appearance of your skin. Do your morning and evening skincare routine without fail. Remember to exfoliate once a week.
To avoid stretch marks, reduce itchiness and soothe dry skin, apply moisturizer or sweet almond oil frequently and liberally all over your body.
The skin under your eyes is more sensitive as compared to the rest of your face. Physical and hormonal changes can take a toll on the skin under your eyes well. This may lead to fine lines, puffiness and dark circles. Use Vya Naturals Under Eye Serum to nourish your under eye area. It is formulated with Niacinamide, Caffeine, Olive extracts and Avocado oil. Furthermore read 5 Reasons You Need To Use An Eye Serum.
While every human being on this planet requires sunscreen, heightened skin sensitivity during pregnancy may make it more difficult for your skin to deal with sun damage. Never step out without applying a broad spectrum sunscreen all over your body with at least SPF30 and reapply it after every 2-3 hours. While it is preferred to use a physical sunscreen over a chemical sunscreen during pregnancy, consult with your doctor about the brand that you use.
While certain ingredients such as parabens, sulphates, silicones, artificial colors and fragrances should be avoided at all times, it is imperative to steer clear of them during pregnancy.
All Vya Naturals products are free of such toxic ingredients.
Vya Naturals Vitamin C face wash and handmade soaps do not contain any sulphates, which is a foaming agent in many cleansing formulations. Also read Why Is Handmade Soap Better?
Consult with your doctor about the safety of certain over the counter spot treatments and certain actives like retinoids, benzoyl peroxides and other skincare acids during pregnancy.
A balanced diet and proper hydration are the golden rules for everyone who wants to have a healthy glowing skin. This is even more so during pregnancy. Always remember to balance your macro and micro nutrients as suggested by your nutritionist and drink adequate amounts of water.
Pregnancy is all about getting ready to welcome a new human being, but it can be tough on your body and skin. Making certain changes in your lifestyle ensuring that you use skincare products that are safe for your skin and baby is the key to enjoy a glowing skin throughout your pregnancy.

]]>Along with dropping temperatures, winter weather also causes the overall humidity levels in the atmosphere to drop. While we bundle up in order to stay warm, our faces are exposed and the skin on our face faces the brunt of the cold weather and dry air.
The moisture barrier of the skin gets compromised leading to sensations of dryness, redness, tightness and itching. Your skin may start to feel more sensitive than usual.
If you work or sleep in an artificially warmed room this can also hurt your skin as central heating strips the natural moisture content from the air and causes your skin more grief. In extreme cases your skin starts to flake and look dull.
Alternating between the cold outside and warmer temperatures inside makes the blood capillaries contract and expand leading to unwelcome flushing and redness.
In most urban areas the arrival of winter also signals higher levels of pollution in the atmosphere. This in turn contributes to free radical damage and early signs of ageing.
Here are a few things to keep in mind to ensure that your skin stays healthy and looks its best all through the trying winter months.
Make sure you keep track of your water intake levels and drink enough water. It is very easy to drink less water during the winter without realizing it. Update your skincare routine to make sure that your skin gets enough moisture since the ambient air will be dry. You can also consider investing in a humidifier if you are constantly in a heated indoor environment
Your skin is going to need all the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants you can give it. Eat sensibly and try to balance out your holiday overindulgence with exercise and healthy food. At the same time make sure your skin gets it share of essential ingredients like Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide (Vit B3), Turmeric etc
Exfoliation rids the surface of the skin of dead skin cells and helps your skin better absorb all the nutrition you apply to it in the form of serums, moisturizers or facial oils.
Just as we adapt our diet, clothing and overall lifestyle when the weather changes, we need to do the same with our skincare routines.
The general rule of thumb would be to switch over to gentler cleansers than you would normally use in the warmer months and to either use a slightly heavier moisturizer or to follow a skin layering technique that keeps your skin more protected.
Alcohol based toners or other skin care products using drying alcohols should not have a place in your beauty cabinet, and especially so in the winter.
If your laps are feeling dry and chapped this is a clear sign of moisture loss - both internal and external. Ensure your liquid intake is 10-12 glasses of water a day. Gently exfoliate the skin of your lips and apply a generous amount of protective lip balm to keep them hydrated.
Your hands should also get the same care. A gentle exfoliation once a week in the shower will remove dead skin cells from the surface. Keep a lotion handy and generously reapply, taking care to massage it into your knuckles and cuticles.
It is tempting to skip applying SPF when the sun seems so mild. UVA rays are present throughout the year and can cause considerable damage as they penetrate deeper into the skin. These are the rays that contribute to photo ageing, sun damage and premature skin ageing.
Winter is probably a happy time for you. Cooler weather helps control excess sebum and acne breakouts are less common in the winter months.
Listen to what your skin is trying to tell you. Normal skin is happy skin and poses minimal concerns. However dry winter air can cause your normal skin to feel a little tight and stretched.
It suffers the most in the winter - sensitivity, redness and irritation are commonplace if the right steps are not taken to safeguard your skin.
India’s first and best selling hyaluronic acid serum helps your skin become more efficient in absorbing and retaining moisture.
Pro tip: apply on slightly damp skin. Follow up with moisturizer. Contains antioxidants like vitamin C and skin loving ingredients like aloe vera and jojoba.
This serum has 5% Niacinamide. Niacinamide is vitamin B3, an ingredient that strengthens your skin’s natural barrier. This helps your skin retain its natural moisture levels and it helps renew and restore the surface of skin against moisture loss and dehydration by helping skin improve its natural production of skin-strengthening ceramides.
A rejuvenating collagen boosting multi peptide moisturizer with goodness of Purslane extract that helps restores youthfulness, stimulates cell repair, resulting in younger, firmer and clear skin.
Winter can be tough on your skin but it doesn't have to be. Tweaking your existing skincare routine, feeding your skin with the right ingredients and making slight lifestyle changes is all that is needed to keep your skin comfortable and happy all winter long.
But have you ever wondered about eye serums - what exactly are eye serums and are they really needed? We believe that the answer to this question is a yes.
Serums are formulated to be light weight in texture. They are rich in active ingredients. Their formulation allows them to be readily absorbed into the skin where they penetrate deeper and deliver beneficial antioxidants where needed.
Eye serums are also great for layering. You can apply moisturisers and eye makeup over your serum without worrying about creasing or cracking. The serum will plump up and smooth out the skin around your eyes without leaving an oily residue which a cream may do.
Read the label on your favorite eye serum. Chances are you will see amazing ingredients listed like hyaluronic acid, caffeine, avocado oil, vitamin C and other antioxidants.
Dark circles and under bags or puffiness are caused by several reasons such as lifestyle, diet, stress, lack of sleep among others. Serums can help in counteracting the result of such lifestyle choices. You will of course need to address the other issues too but a well formulated eye serum can help you look and feel better.
If you think about it, our eyes are always working. We blink on average 10,000 times a day. Every time we laugh, smile, frown, squint or otherwise emote we stretch the skin around our eyes. The skin around our eyes is delicate and thinner than the skin on the rest of our face. It also lacks oil glands. The constant stretching and relaxing also wears out the elasticity of the skin around our eyes. This is why the first signs of ageing are visible on this part of our face before anywhere else. Fine lines, dry skin, crows feet make us look older than we actually are.
Serums contain potent doses of humectants and antioxidants that help improve the moisture level of delicate under eye skin. They decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and other signs of ageing around the periorbital area.
Long hours spent squinting at your phone screen or working on your laptop/ tablet can result in muscle fatigue. Eye serums restore radiance and suppleness to your skin making your eyes appear fuller and more alert.
Applying eye serum is a soothing calming experience and a great way to relax and unwind after a long day. Make it an integral part of your evening skincare routine and reap the benefits of this me time. Vya Naturals Bright Eyes Serum comes equipped with a unique cooling massage applicator. Just a very little bit is enough to be applied along the peri-orbital bone. Massage it in delicately using the roller.
Vya Naturals Under Eye Serum contains caffeine which is rich in antioxidants and reduces dark circles and puffiness. It is known for increasing blood circulation which gives the skin a refreshed look.
Vya Naturals Under Eye Serum is enriched with hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, avocado oil and caffeine which improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, dullness, and uneven skin tone.
Vya Naturals Under Eye Serum has grape extracts rich in antioxidants like resveratrol. Moringa extracts are high in vitamin C while avocado oil contains vitamin E to hydrate and soften the skin.
Vya Naturals Under Eye Serum is formulated with glycerin, hyaluronic acid and niacinamide to visibly improve the appearance of uneven skin tone and dullness.
AIR POLLUTION AND OUR SKIN - IS THERE A RELATION? The simple answer is yes!
Several factors contribute to healthy skin - genetics, lifestyle, diet, sleep as well as the quality of the air or atmosphere around us.
Most urban cities have higher levels of air pollution. Air pollution is measured by smog and particulate matter.
It is caused by human activities - industrial emissions, manufacturing processes, refineries, car exhaust, construction dust, smoking, burning of organic (plant stubble and leaves for example) and inorganic refuse (plastics for example) as well as other climatic factors.
Gaseous air pollution causes free radical damage to skin cells. Constant exposure to this pollution makes skin look dull and lacking in radiance. Free radical damage also hastens early signs of ageing.
Particulate matter is also a key component of air pollution. Since these are nanoparticles they are capable of clogging skin pores causing breakouts.
Air pollution has a negative effect on the skin’s biome since these impurities compromise skin barrier. A compromised barrier opens up the skin to further impact of pollutants and other skin irritants.
"Research has shown that air pollution is as big an area of concern for skin health as is exposure to UV rays"
Air pollution is everywhere. It is virtually impossible to totally escape the impact of this menace.
The best way to help overcome it is to offset its impact on our skin and to strengthen our natural skin barrier.
Besides its antioxidant properties, Niacinamide also plays a key role in strengthening skin barrier. Niacinamide has been shown to enhance the repair of DNA damage in human keratinocytes and in human skin.
At Vya Naturals we have incorporated anti pollution skincare ingredients into our best selling serums.

Pollution is all pervasive - particulate matter is found in even the most pristine of environments.
Parabens are a group of preservatives used in skincare and haircare products. Most products have a “shelf life” - this basically means the amount of time that they can be kept as fresh as possible and without any bacterial or fungal contamination. Chemists incorporate various preservatives in order to do this. Parabens are chemicals that have been used to prevent bacteria and to act as a preservative in lotions, lipsticks, shampoos, cleansers etc.
Sulfates are surfactants i.e. cleansing and foaming agents that create lather to help cleanse your skin and hair. If you have a face wash or shampoo that lathers easily by just adding a little bit of water then chances are it has sulfates in it. Sulfates can be found in cleansers, shampoo, body washes and toothpaste among many other products.
Both parabens and sulphates have been shown to be capable of penetrating the skin’s barrier and entering our bodies.
There have been no conclusive studies proving a direct link between parabens and cancer. They have however been shown to be endocrine disruptors which can be a cause of reproductive and developmental issues.
Marine researchers have also seen a link between damaged coral reefs and parabens used in sunscreen products.
Sulphates have been shown to strip hair and skin of natural oils, making them brittle, dry and damaged. They can also cause scalp issues like dryness, itching, and irritation. If you colour your hair you will notice that switching to a sulphate free shampoo keeps your hair colour looking good for a longer period of time.
If you wish to protect your skin and hair from exposure to parabens and sulphates in your beauty products, here are a few things you can do.
Skincare brands that believe in safe formulations will not use parabens and sulphates in the products they make. They will also mention this on their website on or on their product labels.
Vya Naturals products have been formulated to be free of parabens and sulphates, along with other chemicals for which we believe safer alternatives exist. This has been the cornerstone of our brand philosophy.
While several studies have been conducted by researchers, there hasn’t been any conclusive evidence that effectively links parabens to cancer or other such side effects.
Sulphates as well have been permitted as cleansing agents provided they are well rinsed off your skin and hair.
However if you wish to follow a “safer rather than sorry” route then looking for products formulated without these two ingredients is the best way to go.
Luckily there are several options available for discerning and well informed consumers. Responsible brands use safer alternatives available as preservatives and as foaming/ cleansing agents.
]]>It’s become an increasingly popular ingredient in serums and moisturizers for its superpower hydrating and anti-aging abilities.
Hyaluronic acid or hyaluronan is a sugar molecule called polysaccharide that is naturally occurring in our bodies. That’s right, it’s already in our skin! It acts as a cushioning agent for our joints, nerves, hair, skin, and eyes. Its primary function in the skin is that of a humectant. Humectants attract moisture from the air and lock it in our skin. Hyaluronic acid is unbelievably hydrating and can hold many litres of water, keeping our skin soft and plump.
Although the terms “sodium hyaluronate” and “hyaluronic acid” are used interchangeably in the beauty industry, they’re a bit different. If you guessed this had something to do with salt, you’re right! Sodium hyaluronate is the salt of hyaluronic acid.
Sodium hyaluronate is a smaller molecule than hyaluronic acid, so it is more easily absorbed and penetrates more deeply into the layers of the skin – but it does the same job.
One ingredient isn’t necessarily better than the other. In fact, you can occasionally find skincare products that contain both forms for maximum benefits.
Yes, it works indeed. Hyaluronic Acid is one of the few ingredients that has tons of scientific evidence for its action. Simply put, hyaluronic acid works as a magnet for moisture and helps our cells retain as much moisture as possible so our skin (and, you know, other important body parts) look, feel, and act hydrated, plump, and healthy.
As a moisture magnet, it has the ability to absorb up to 1,000 times its weight in water. One gram of hyaluronic acid can hold 1.5 gallons of water (approx 6 litres).
That’s a lot of liquid and luckily, HA also helps our cells regulate all that moisture so they don’t drown, feeding our body a steady stream of thirst-quenching goodness.
We're often asked: Can I use hyaluronic acid every day?
The word acid may give you jitters. But fret not, hyaluronic acid is extremely safe to use. Hyaluronic acid, when used topically in the form of a serum, can be used twice a day in your morning and night skin care routines. It is suited for all skin types. In case you have sensitive skin or rosacea, conduct a patch test before use.
Hyaluronic acid is a great regimen booster for all skin types and can be used twice a day. The basic order to follow, no matter what skin type, is to:
Using Hyaluronic Acid serum on oily or combination skin can help reduce the occurrence of breakouts and maintain a healthy moisture level of your skin. After cleansing and toning, apply the serum and you can choose to follow with your moisturiser or skip it. Finally, close with sunscreen (only during the day).
Layering the serum with a moisturizer gets all the more important for your skin type. Moisturizers are formulated with emollients to help seal in hydration and deliver longer-lasting wear. Without that, the benefits of hydration are lost and your skin may actually look and feel drier throughout the day because all the hydration you put into it was not trapped with a moisturizer.
Oily skin and acne concerns also benefit from a daily hyaluronic acid treatment. It helps keep the skin supple and reduce the prevalence of breakouts and blackheads. More importantly, hyaluronic acid is non-comedogenic, does not sensitize the skin, and it helps improve cystic acne and rosacea skin concerns by assisting with healing and repair.
If you’re someone who’s struggling with breakouts and using topical acne treatments, you know just how drying those can be. While Hyaluronic Acid doesn’t directly clear acne, it’s used in blemish-fighting formulas to draw moisture to the skin and improve dryness. When your skin is dry, it actually produces more oil to compensate – which may create more acne. So, yes, moisturizing is an important skincare step when dealing with acne and this is where Hyaluronic Acid comes in.
Used as an injectable filler, hyaluronic acid works very well as a treatment for acne scars. It produces an immediate, measurable improvement that can last for several months, helping people with acne scarring enjoy an improved appearance and increased confidence.
Used topically, it’s hard to say that hyaluronic acid works as a treatment for acne scars. While it might be an effective treatment on its own, there just isn’t enough scientific evidence to say this with any level of certainty.
It’s generally better to stick with proven, science-backed treatments if you’d like to get rid of your inflamed or cystic acne scarring.
As we age, our skin’s natural content of hyaluronic acid drops dramatically. People between the ages of 19 and 47 have twice as much hyaluronic acid in their skin as those in their 50s and 60s. With time, that amount drops even further, making hyaluronic acid even more important, as it helps replace what skin loses with the passage of time. And now that you’re well versed with this magic ingredient, you know that whether you’re looking for ultra-hydration, diminishing those pesky fine lines, or boosting your skin’s health, hyaluronic acid has got your back!

]]>This quiet superstar is NIACINAMIDE and your skin loves it! Niacinamide is a versatile ingredient with something to offer all skin types and skin concerns. Let’s get to know it a bit better.
Niacinamide is a form of Vitamin B3 - a water soluble vitamin that is great for skin, hair and overall health.
It is considered an essential micronutrient.
Our bodies do not synthesise Niacinamide. Hence, we need to include it in our diet or apply it topically to avail of its benefits.
The most wonderful thing about Niacinamide is how it benefits ALL skin types.
Niacinamide is available in several skincare products - cleansers, toners, moisturizers and lotions to name a few.
The best and most efficient way to incorporate this star ingredient into your skincare routine though has to be in the form of a serum.
Serums after all are concentrated skincare products with higher levels of active ingredients and show great results when used appropriately.
Apply Niacinamide serum to cleansed and toned skin. Follow up with a moisturizer and sunscreen.
Niacinamide can be used as part of your morning and evening skincare routine. You can also safely use it twice daily should you so wish.
Niacinamide Serum can also be layered with other serums. As always, start with a serum that is thinner or more runny in texture and move on to heavier serums while layering.
Niacinamide products can have varying levels of the active ingredient, depending on the brand and the specific product (i.e. whether it is a leave-on product like a lotion or serum or whether it is a wash off product like a cleanser).
Most visible results have been observed at concentrations varying from 4% to 10%.
Niacinamide is a gentle, stable active and is well tolerated by most skin types.
Nevertheless it is best to test for skin sensitivity if you are using a niacinamide for the very first time (this protocol holds true for any new product that you might be introducing into your skincare regime).
If you have very sensitive skin you may want to not introduce too many new serums or actives along with niacinamide. It is good practice to get your skin gradually accustomed over a period of time to new skincare products.
Take the time to read the label of your Niacinamide serum.
A well formulated serum such as the Vya Naturals Niacinamide 5% Serum or Vya Naturals Niacinamide 10% Serum will be free of potential irritants such as synthetic fragrance and colour and will contain other skin friendly ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid, Aloe Vera and Rosemary extracts.
Yes! Niacinamide can safely be used with other skincare products that contain antioxidants, anti inflammatory ingredients, humectants and similar such skin friendly ingredients.
Using Niacinamide with Hyaluronic Acid active is a great option since Hyaluronic Acid improves the skin’s absorption of niacinamide. You can use Vya Naturals Niacinamide Serum.
Since Niacinamide application strengthens the skin’s barrier it plays a key role in helping reduce irritations that might be caused by other ingredients.
Let’s talk about the confusion regarding the use of Niacinamide in conjunction with Vitamin C.
Studies have shown that if Niacinamide and pure Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) are mixed and heated to very high temperatures over a long period of time then it results in the formation of nicotinic acid.
Skincare care products containing Niacinamide and Vitamin C can be used together in your skincare regime since normal usage patterns do not replicate the lab conditions described above.
Also most skincare products (including the Vitamin C range from Vya Naturals) use highly stable forms of Ascorbic Acid such as Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate or 3 Glyceryl Ascorbate.
Niacinamide by itself is very stable and not susceptible to heat or pH.
“If this product is supposed to help my skin, why is it making my skin breakout?” Inspecting your skin, you notice little bumps on your cheeks, forehead, and chin. Don’t fret! What appears to look like a breakout is totally normal. Most likely, what you are experiencing is skin purging, not a breakout.
Let’s set the facts straight.
Skin purging occurs when you start using a new product that increases the skin cell turnover rate. Products that actively speed up the process of the skin cell turnover cycle will help reveal healthier skin, but not without first “purging” all the stuff that was living underneath your skin. This gunk includes flakes of dry and dead skin, already present buildup, and excess sebum.
Since the product you are using is increasing the rate of skin cell turnover, all the gunk will inevitably rise to the surface of your pores quickly. New acne may make you question whether or not to stop using a product.
Purging is a necessary process that your skin must go through to adjust to new skincare products. Once the purging finishes, it will leave behind clearer, cleaner and younger-looking skin. Skin purging is a method to all the madness that may be occurring on your face.
So, in the long term, products won’t build up or clog your pores but in the shorter term, this accelerated shedding or exfoliation may trigger more breakouts or blackheads. Skin purging takes form in mostly blackheads or tiny skin-colored bumps, and looks incredibly similar to a breakout.
Certain products trigger the process of purging. When changing up your regular skincare routine with new products, it is important to note which products are more likely to cause skin purging.
Vitamin c, retinol, salicylic acid, hydroxy acids, benzoyl peroxide, high concentration of niacinamide are just a few of the products that cause purging.
These products contain active ingredients that increase the skin cell turnover rate, therefore causing your skin to purge. Do not freak out! Rest assured that this is just the first phase to better skin.
Scared for your skin’s health? Keep these key points in mind.
A set of things you should NOT be doing. Grab a pencil and paper - it’s time for some notes-to-self!
Though it takes about a month for your skin to be back to its normal state, it’s imperative that you visit a dermatologist if at the 6-8 week mark you don’t see a positive change in your skin’s condition.
All said and done, skin purging is an absolutely normal process. Remember, you need to get through the bad to get to the good!
Wearing masks has resulted in a new skin nasty that you might just be facing yourself. No, that’s not your regular acne. It’s mask-acne a.k.a maskne.
Complaints about pimples, blackheads, rashes, and other skin issues have reached a fever pitch and much of it could be connected to wearing a mask. You don’t even have to wear a mask for hours every day to start noticing maskne, though how long you wear one could play a role. Nevertheless, just putting on a mask to run to the grocery store or walk your dog could still have an impact on your skin.
Here’s what you need to know.
There are three broad causes:
This is when the mask constantly brushes against your skin resulting in continuous friction for prolonged periods. This leads to surface inflammation.
Your skin is highly sensitive at this point. Under a mask, it is quite likely for your skin to be irritated and bruised.
The pores of your skin are clogged to the point where there is excess oil production and dirt that accumulates under the mask which leads to clogged pores and results in breakouts.
Don’t fret, we’ve got you covered.
Use a 100% pure cotton fabric mask. It's the best for your skin. It is breathable and can be washed. That being said, we highly recommend washing your mask after each and every use.
Washing your face before and after each use of the mask with a soap-free cleanser is extremely important.
Vya Naturals Vitamin C Face Wash keeps your skin fresh, free of dirt and oil. It regulates the pH of your skin and does not strip the skin of it’s natural oils.
Your skin needs the love! Using gentle skincare products should be your priority, especially right now. Products with parabens, sulphates, drying alcohol and toxic chemicals are a sure NO.
Applying serums and creams which will protect your skin as well as keep your skin hydrated is what you need.
Vya Naturals Hyaluronic Acid Serum is a go-to product to keep your skin hydrated under that mask. Another serum with skin-loving ingredients is Vya Naturals Niacinamide Serum. Niacinamide is a skin barrier saviour. It’s about time you add it to your cart!
Using fewer, effective skincare products is a much better option than hoarding your dressing cabinet with an excess of unnecessary products.
You know how the saying goes, “less is more”. This couldn’t be truer when it comes to maskne.
Watched or read an excellent review of a new launch in the skincare market? Hold on, now is not the time to experiment. Stick to the basics and the routine you already follow. Your skin nasties would thrive on a new product and that’s something you definitely don’t want!
Makeup is just another product that will certainly clog your already-clogged pores further. Breakup with that makeup especially if you use the face mask for a long period of time everyday and give your skin time to breathe.
Mask-ne can be tough to deal with since living without a mask is not the answer given the situation we’re all stuck in. Prevention is better than cure! Using the above pointers should be helpful but you must know when it’s time to visit a dermatologist.
Vitamin C is a sure favorite in the skincare world, thanks to its brightening and anti-ageing properties.
Along with definitely adding it to your diet, using serums and other topical products is the most direct way to reap its benefits. A Vitamin C Serum which is likely to suit all skin types is your safe bet. Click here to know more about Vya Naturals Vitamin C Serum.
However, it is important to bear in mind the right way of using any product whatsoever. Here’s a quick cheat sheet of four things you need to know before using a Vitamin C Serum.
If you’re wondering when to apply a Vitamin C Serum, the answer is both morning and night. However if you have to choose one time then you should definitely choose to use it in the morning skincare routine. It’s important to give it time to absorb into your skin before going outside. Top it off with Vya Naturals Moisturizer and don’t forget that sunscreen! Vitamin C has photo-protective properties and helps protect from oxidative stress caused by the free radicals we meet throughout our day.
In general, serums can range from below 10% all the way up to 30%. Those with sensitive skin probably want to stick with lower concentrations, around 10%, which are less likely to be irritating.
But those with oily skin or with more extensive pigmentation concerns can handle higher concentrations. Choose wisely in order to not cause any damage to your skin. When reading the label make sure the Vitamin C is listed as one of the first five ingredients.
Vitamin C is generally pretty safe and well tolerated, but if you have sensitive skin, it is likely to sting a little or cause redness. Few ingredients you should steer clear of when using vitamin C are retinol, benzoyl peroxide. We recommend using a vitamin C serum in the morning and retinol at night to best out of both ingredients. Benzoyl peroxide on the other hand may oxidize vitamin C and make it less potent. Definitely not a win-win situation.
Exposure to air, light, and heat can degrade your serum. Look for a product that comes in a dark glass bottle featuring a medicine dropper delivery, rather than an air pump.
Maintenance is key! The better you maintain a product, the better it is for your skin. Vitamin C is sensitive to light and air. When exposed to these factors, it becomes oxidized. Your vitamin C serum should be colorless or a light yellow color. If it is oxidized, it becomes deep yellow or brown and is going to be less effective. Also do not keep it in the bathroom.
Vitamin C is mostly safe to use, but in rare instances, side effects may occur, like stinging, redness, dryness, or a yellowish discoloration. As with any new product, do a patch test first before a full application.

]]>Thank you to the internet and old wives’ tales, there is plenty of advice being thrown around. This causes the circulation of myths, leading to confusion.
To overcome any skincare issue, you may be tempted to consider any and every solution you come across. Chances are that you are clinging on to at least one bad piece of skincare advice.
Most people with oily skin tend to not use a moisturizer because they are of the opinion that the oil their skin produces is enough to keep their face well moisturized.
However, the truth is people with oily skin should moisturize.
Although it may seem counter-intuitive, people with oily skin should moisturize. Acne products and excessive washing can dry out skin, triggering additional oil production, and hence, more pimples.

An appropriate moisturizer for acne-prone skin can help balance moisture levels in the skin and reduce further breakouts. You can try Vya Naturals Multi-Peptide Moisturizer.
In the hope of achieving desired results quicker, people layer unnecessary amounts of product.
Stop, because less is more! A pea-sized amount of facial product normally does the trick.
A habit as bad as this one could reverse the effects giving you skin problems and irritation. Not to forget, it will waste a whole lot of your money!
You cannot slather yourself with sunscreen in the morning and expect all-day long protection from harmful UV rays of the sun.
To those wondering, the answer to wearing sunscreen at home is an unfaltering yes.
Photo by Andrea Piacquadio from Pexels
UV rays of the sun can penetrate windows, glass doors - so, the harm is done even if you are indoors. Depending on how much time you spend outdoors, dermatologists advise to apply sunscreen every two to four hours.
It doesn’t need to hurt to make it work.
Exfoliating your face in a rough and harsh manner will lead to long-term skin damage. Burns and cuts are bound to happen because of the fine granules if you scrub this way.

Always scrub your skin in slow, circular motions with a gentle scrub for best results.
Hot water is absolutely toxic for your skin. Not only does it suck out the moisture from your skin but also leaves your skin dehydrated, dry and devoid of any nutrients.
Hot water also damages your skin’s topmost layer.
It is best to use lukewarm water on your face for cleansing along with a gentle cleanser. To open up the pores, try taking some steam instead of using hot water directly.
With this useful information, you’re sure to tackle skincare worries much better.
Vitamin C is an AHA, (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) which is found naturally in several fruits, leaves & vegetables but not in human beings.
It is also known as L-Ascorbic acid or if one has to name its structure it goes by 2-oxo-L-threo-hexono-1,4-lactone-2,3-enediol also called as INCI name.
Vitamin C is used in the form of oral tablets, IV injections & cosmetic preparations.
Vitamin C has several health benefits and is known as one of the most powerful anti-oxidant there is. We all need antioxidants to neutralize the free radicals that are produced in our bodies due to several environmental & nutritional reasons.
These free radicals can cause havoc with our bodies both internally & externally. Vitamin C strengthens the immune system and fights off free radical stress. Vitamin C is required by our body to synthesize collagen, to keep a smooth metabolic function and to keep the regeneration process going on.
Vitamin C works on all skin types to even out and to brighten tone along with fading hyper-pigmentation, protecting against environmental aggressors, brighten skin tone, and promoting collagen and elastin production.
L-Ascorbic Acid products are clinically proven to penetrate the skin tissue and are more active in collagen production. This, in turn, increases firmness in the skin. L-Ascorbic Acid is a rejuvenating vitamin ingredient that also plays a part in the reduction of photo damage caused by harmful UVB rays. As L-Ascorbic Acid containing products play a major role in anti-aging treatments, skin firmness, overall repair and brightening, they also serve to rejuvenate the skin.
Conditions such as ageing skin, hyperpigmentation and post inflammation hyperpigmentation benefit greatly from L-Ascorbic Acid skin care products.
The benefits of oral Vitamin C both in its natural form and in oral tablets or intravenous injections is well documented.
However, in order to reach the outermost layer of the skin it has to traverse a complex path and skin being the distant part of the body to attend to, very insignificant amount is actually delivered. Topical applications have a direct benefit on skin, and a substantial amount is available to perform the function at the dermal level.
Vitamin C is an unstable molecule and upon contact with air gets converted to diketogluconic acid which doesn’t have any skin benefit.
Formulators stabilize Vitamin C in such away so as to deliver it to the consumer in a ready to use form. Several methodologies are used to render Vitamin C in a stable form.
Vitamin C ingredient is used in several formulations like creams, lotions, gels, cleansers, sprays, serums, masks, etc. Many of these products help to stabilize the ingredient and deliver to get the maximum efficacy. Different concentrations of Vitamin C & their derivatives are used.
Vitamin C in L-Ascorbic form is not recommended along with products containing Retinol and Niacinamide. It is safe for use with stabilized versions of Vitamin C. Due to its instability some of the cosmetic ingredients are not compatible and hence need to be selected scientifically. Also Vitamin C should not be used in the powder form as it is prone to deteriorate.
Vitamin C is highly unstable and needs a very acidic pH to stabilise in the product. This can be irritating to sensitive skin types and can cause severe discomfort.
In order to avoid this, stabilized versions of Vitamin C are used, for e.g. Vya Naturals Vitamin C Serum, Hyaluronic Acid Serum with Vitamin C, Vitamin C Face wash, Vitamin C Moisturizer all use stabilized versions of Vitamin C.
Examples of stabilised Vitamin C are 3O Ethyl Ascorbate, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Glyceryl Ascorbate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, THD Ascorbate etc. which metabolise to form Vitamin C and deliver the same effects from brightening to delivering the antioxidants to the skin.
People with rosacea and sensitive skin conditions should avoid Vitamin C ingredient as it may cause irritation. Oily, dry and combination skin types can benefit greatly from L-Ascorbic Acid products. However Vya Naturals Vitamin C based products can be used for sensitive skin too as they are formulated to neutral pH (Non acidic ). As with any skincare product, consumers should perform a patch test before using Vitamin C product to confirm their tolerance.
Vitamin C can help promote wound healing and repair skin as per a study done on human fibroblasts.
Although several products with Vitamin C products are available in the market to reduce hair thinning, scientific studies are still being conducted to prove the claim. Also Vitamin C in a complex form present in Amla is known to provide benefits on hair.
Vitamin C is made by a multi-step process starting with Glucose.
Besides citric fruit like lemon & orange, Vitamin C is widely present in spinach, bell peppers, strawberry, green capsicum, papaya, kale, guava, broccoli, litchi etc. in significant amounts.
Clinical trials are being carried out at several institutes throughout the world to determine whether Vitamin C given intravenously or orally helps to reduce morbidity in severe cases.
Thiamine Riboflavin Niacin Pantothenic Acid Pyridoxine Folate Cobalamin Ascorbic Acid Beta-Carotene Alpha-Tocopherol Calciferol.
All the above names are that of different Vitamins, Ascorbic Acid is Vitamin C.
In a nutshell, Vitamin C in Cosmetics is used as an antioxidant to protect skin from environmental damage. It helps skin to produce more collagen to give anti ageing benefits and helps treat hyperpigmentation, acne, scars & even out the skin tone.
